We have all had a moment where we have put our foot in our mouths and said something absolutely ridiculous. Yes, it can be embarrassing, but the good news is that it is usually forgotten about pretty soon after the words pass your lips. The same cannot be said for celebrities, as their embarrassing quotes will live on forever in infamy. Not only that, but one bad quote can now go viral and spread across the internet like wildfire mere moments after the gaffe has been made. Yes, we mere mortals can live safe in the knowledge that our mistake will soon be forgotten, but the following 10 examples prove that embarrassing celebrity quotes will live forever:

1) “So, where’s the Cannes Film Festival being held this year?” – Cristina Aguilera – Okay, so you can make the argument that Miss Aguilera is a singer, not an actress, but that does nothing to cover the fact the location of the festival is right there in the title. Perhaps she believes that they put the films in cans and transport them to other exotic locales. It really is tough to make a valid argument for this mistake.

2) “Smoking kills. If you’re killed you’ve lost a very important part of your life” – Brooke Shields – This particular quote is absolutely impossible to defend in any kind of way. I can’t even figure out what she might have been trying to say here, so off the mark is her statement.

3) “You guys, line up alphabetically by height” – Bill Peterson – Mr. Peterson was the head coach of the Florida State basketball team when he uttered those immortal words. You can almost imagine the players using the intricate math theories they learned in college to figure out if six feet eleven inches comes before seven feet two inches.

4) “I get to go to lots of overseas places, like Canada” – Britney Spears – This quote was spoken at the height of the pop princess’ fame, so we may be able to chalk it up to exhaustion. The reality is that when touring, artists sometimes lose track of which city and country they are in, but this is proof that they maybe shouldn’t lose touch with a map.

5) “I think that gay marriage is something that should be between a man and a woman” – Arnold Schwarzenegger – In fairness to the action star, English is not his first language, so perhaps this gaffe can be excused. That said, he has been around long enough in the state of California to understand what a gay couple looks like.

6) “Predictions are difficult, especially about the future” – Yogi Berra – It would actually be possible to make this entire list of embarrassing quotes be filled with statements by the baseball legend. He is as much remembered for that as he is for his contribution to the sport.

7) “I have opinions of my own, strong opinions, but I don’t always agree with them” – George W. Bush  Another gentleman whose quotes could fill up an entire list. This one, though, is a personal favorite.

8) “The word ‘genius’ isn’t appropriate in football. A genius is a guy like Norman Einstein” – Joe Theisman – The former professional player and now TV analyst does a spectacular job here of totally proving the point he set out to make.

9) “Outside of the killings, Washington has one of the lowest crime rates in the country” – Mayor Marion Barry – We all know that politicians will skew the facts to prove a point, but this is taking it all a little too far.

10) “I love California. I practically grew up in Phoenix” – Dan Quayle – Apparently Mr. Quayle was under the impression that California has extended its borders, all the way through Arizona.
