Making A List Is A Great Way To Achieve Goals

Thoughts can very easily be dismissed or put to the back of your mind, which is where they usually wither and die. Ask yourself how many times you have thought about doing something, only to send it to the darkest recesses of your mind, never to be heard of again. That is a little harder to do when you create a physical list that you are forced to look at on a regular basis. Let’s put that in simpler terms. If you are about to go grocery shopping, yet don’t make a list of items you need, you will almost always arrive back home having forgotten one or two crucial items. Get all of that down on a list and you will arrive home laden with all the goods you need until the next shopping trip. The same is true when you are putting together a bucket list.

It may be just me, but I believe that writing down a goal or a dream is as powerful as speaking it aloud to a room full of people. A good number of those folks will remember the words you said and call you out on them if you fail to live up to what you said. A goal or dream scribbled on a piece of paper will do the exact same thing whenever you look at it. Not following the words that you have written down is basically breaking a promise made to yourself.

Yes, your mind will probably try to intervene at every turn, with your subconscious telling you all the ways that you won’t be able to achieve the words you have written. That little voice in your head, and, yes, we all have it, does a great job of talking us out of things, but you have to let your written and spoken words speak far louder than that voice. It’s here that you have to decide which sort of person you want to be, which leads me to another fantastic quote, spoken by a person that you will instantly recognize as being one of the people he mentions in this quote:

I’m sure you are all very aware that he was a driven individual that made things happen. He was undoubtedly born with a rare, natural talent, but that only goes so far. You have to put in the effort to make sure that talent doesn’t go to waste. The people that make it happen are those that “make it happen” are those that go the extra mile to ensure that it does. So, what type of person are you? Do you dream about doing certain things, knowing full well you will never actually get round to doing them? Do you sit back and hope that someday you will get lucky enough to actually achieve a goal, without ever doing anything to assist? Or are you the one that is prepared to do whatever it takes to make your goals and dreams happen? If you fall into the latter category, then I bet you have, at one time or another, written down the things that you want to accomplish. This leads us nicely into another great anonymous quote:

“Watch your thoughts, for they become words. Watch your words, for they become actions. Watch your actions, for they become habits.”

Thoughts are meaningless without the words and actions to back them up, so try to get in the habit of following the sequence laid out in the above quote. Before you know it, those thoughts will turn into actions that will get you scratching all of those great deeds off of your bucket list.
