You hear so much about the bad behavior and egotistical attitudes of many celebrities that you start to believe that they are all egomaniacal crazy people. The sad thing is that the tabloid press and popular media would sooner tell you those crazy stories because they simply sell better than happy or cool stories. There are celebrities all over the world doing great things, but they usually get bumped off of the front page of the entertainment section by another who was embroiled in a sordid sex scandal, or who punched out a reported trying to snap a picture.

I’m sure there are plenty of you out there who would rather read a long article devoted to such nasty behavior, but I’m going to go out of my way to highlight the good things about celebrities and some of the cool stories that have come out of the nice things they do.

Rowling made billions of dollars writing the Harry Potter stories, all of which will likely remain popular with adults and kids for generations to come. It’s often been said that the written word lasts forever, and Miss Rowling made sure that one of her biggest fans would live along with the tales. As she was working on the fourth book in the series, Rowling received word about a young girl with Leukemia named Natalie McDonald. Rowling finished the book about a year in advance and e-mailed the final chapters to young Natalie. Unfortunately the girl passed before she could read the book, but Rowling named a character after Natalie and had her placed in Gryffindor in the story.

There have been many cool stories told about Bill Murray. The internet has become filled with these tales, with the reader left to decide which is true and which are in fact made up. Murray is apparently well aware of these stories and will do random cool things to help add to the lore. The one cool story that can actually be confirmed as true is when he and Dan Aykroyd donned the Ghostbusters suits to go visit a terminally ill child. Not only did they do the suits, but it’s said that both men stayed in character the whole time, much to the delight of the child.

One of the biggest complaints that many of us regular folks have with celebrities usually comes down to the money they make for the things they do. A good many of us balk at the millions paid to actors for their work in movies, but it’s not all of them that take their good fortune for granted. Keanu Reeves made an exorbitant amount of money for the Matrix sequels, all courtesy of the profit sharing part of his contract. All the money he made was split among the special effects team, as he felt it was they who had made the movies such a huge success. Johnny Depp is another who is well-known for being generous. While filming one of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, Depp coughed up $64,000 for jackets for the crew, all of whom were being drenched during a particularly nasty spell of weather.

Many of you are probably aware of the children that Jolie has adopted from other countries, but may not be aware of the time she spends abroad as a humanitarian ambassador. While perhaps not on as grand a scale as Miss Jolie, Justin Timberlake tries to his best for the world around him. On a recent tour, Timberlake employed environmental experts to measure the carbon footprint hos tour was leaving behind. After each stop on the tour, Timberlake then made sure that trees and bushes were planted that would basically cancel out the size of the footprint left behind.

Hope full you found one of your favorite celebrities in this article, and if not, why not share a cool story about something nice they might have done to help another.
